Qualifications:
- Graduate of a Practical Nurse Program approved by The Massachusetts Board of registration in Nursing.
- Current License as a Practical Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Prefer 1-3 years experience in pediatric, community health, education or related field.
Reports to:
Works collaboratively with the RN in the School. Additionally reports to building Principal with resource/guidance provided by current Nurse Administrator.
Job Goal:
Meet the physical and health care needs of a medically fragile student during the school day.
Responsibilities:
- Provides care in the case of medical emergency or injury. Such care will be limited to First Aid only, followed by referral to the PCP or proper medical facility if needed.
- Document first aid care provided to student. Will complete accident reports and other reports that may be required by school or state.
- Maintain an accurate health record on each student. Documents health related activities and treatments on the daily logs as appropriate.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to administer medications appropriately, in keeping with school policy on administration of medication in school.
- Collaborates with the Registered Nurse in treatment plan as necessary.
- Collaborated with the Registered Nurse to screen all current and new students to ensure compliance with state immunization laws.
- Collaborates with the Registered Nurse to organize, implement, and report on mandated health screening programs.
- Collaborates with the Registered Nurse to recommend exclusion and monitor readmission to school for students with infectious or communicable diseases.
- Maintain medical equipment and supplies.
- A resource to the student, parent, principal, and teachers in matters pertaining to the student needs.
- Collaborates with the parents and RN to develop and implement a Health Care Plan for the students as needed.
- Collaborates/cooperates with community providers and state agencies to meet the health and social service needs of students.
- Identifies health and safety hazards in the school and advised the appropriate personnel.
- Assists with any toileting, feeding, and/or Activities of Daily Living needed by students..
- Other duties as assigned.

Compensation will be in accordance to the Instructional Assistants' salary schedule
